Type locality: "Quebrada Yanachaga (10° 22.772′ S, 75° 27.717′ W), 3000 m elevation, Yanachaga-Chemillén National Park (Sector San Daniel), Distrito de Huancabamba, Provincia de Oxapampa, Departamento de Pasco, Peru". Phrynopus nicoleae Chaparro, Padial, and De la Riva, 2008, Zootaxa, 1761: 53. Holotype: MHNC 6441, by original designation. Type locality: "Santa Bárbara, Distrito de Huancabamba, Provincia de Oxapampa, 3589 m a.s.l. (10° 20′36.3″S, 75° 38′ 17.9″W), Departmento Pasco, Peru".
