Sminthillus brasiliensis Parker, 1926, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 9, 18: 201. Holotype: BMNH 1902.11.25.8, by original designation, now renumbered 1947.2.14.85 according to museum records. Type locality: "Organ Mountains [= Serra dos Órgãos, state of Rio de Janeiro,] Brazil"; perhaps incorrect according to Izecksohn, 1988, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 48: 59-74.

Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 86, provided a brief account and photo. Fusinatto, Alexandrino, Haddad, Brunes, Rocha, and Sequeira, 2013, PLoS One, 8(11: e79504): 1–12, reported on cryptic diversity under this name.  Hepp and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2011, Herpetol. Notes, 4: 45-61, compared the advertisement call to that of Euparkerella cochranae.
