Hylodes anomalus Boulenger, 1898, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1898: 119. Syntypes: BMNH 1947.2.17.8-10 (formerly 98.4.28.98-100), according to J.D. Lynch IN Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 270. Type locality: "Cachabé [= Cachabí], a small village on the river of that name . . . Prov. Esmeraldas . . . about 500 feet above the sea", Ecuador. Lynch and Myers, 1983, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 175: 515, discussed this locality and noted that it is not the same as San Javier de Cachabí.

Distribution

Chocoan rainforests at elevations below 1100 m, from northern Colombia (Serranía de Baudó) south to northwestern Ecuador.

In the Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri group of Lynch and Myers, 1983, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 175: 518-521, who reviewed this species and discussed misidentifications in the literature.
