Type locality: "between 'El Silencio' and 'El Rancho' along the Río Combeima, corregimeiento Inspección de Policía Las Juntas, Municipio Ibagué, Departamento de Tolijma, Colombia, 2400-2650 m".

Between 2400 and 3700 m in cloud forest and subpáramo in the Central and Western Cordillera, in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda, Tolima.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 230. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. Méndez-Narváez, Bolívar-García, and Castro-Herrera, 2010, Check List, 6: 499-500, provided a range extension to Valle del Cauca, Colombia, and commented on confusion of this species with Pristimantis supernatisRojas-Morales and Marín-Martínez, 2019, J. Threatened Taxa, 11: 13261–13277, discussed habitat preference and natural history in Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados, Caldas, Colombia.
