Leptopelis uluguruensis Barbour and Loveridge, 1928, Mem. Mus. Comp. Zool., 50: 235. Holotype: MCZ 13586, by original designation. Type locality: "Nyange, Uluguru Mountains, Tanganyika Territory [= Tanzania]"; this locality identifed to be at approx. 6.87°S 37.76°E by Gvoždík, Tillack, Menegon, and Loader, 2014, Zootaxa, 3793: 177.
Leptopelis amaniensis Ahl, 1929, Sitzungsber. Ges. Naturforsch. Freunde Berlin, 1929: 197. Syntypes: ZMB (2 specimens) unnumbered according to the original publication, although three are noted by Gvoždík, Tillack, Menegon, and Loader, 2014, Zootaxa, 3793: 178, who designated ZMB 25315 lectotype. Type locality: "Amani", Tanzania. Synonymy by Loveridge, 1957, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 117: 319–320; Schiøtz, 1975, Treefrogs E. Afr.: 46.
Leptopelis tanganus Ahl, 1929, Sitzungsber. Ges. Naturforsch. Freunde Berlin, 1929: 221. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered, according to the original publication. MCZ 17529 (on exchange from ZMB) considered a 'cotype' by Barbour and Loveridge, 1946, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 96: 141, presumably this is a paratype. ZMB 25262 identified as holotype by Gvoždík, Tillack, Menegon, and Loader, 2014, Zootaxa, 3793: 179. Type locality: "Tanga", Tanzania; corrected to "Magoroto, East Usambara Mountains, Tanzania, approx. 5.12° S 38.75° E" by Gvoždík, Tillack, Menegon, and Loader, 2014, Zootaxa, 3793: 179. Synonymy by Loveridge, 1933, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 74: 346.

Distribution
Forests of the Eastern Arc chain in eastern Tanzania, including the East Usambara, Nguu, Nguru, Udzungwa (see comment), and Uluguru mountains, Tanzania.

Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 281-283, doubted the Udzungwa Mountain record of this species. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 209-210, provided an account.
