Forests of extreme southeastern Nigeria through Cameroon to central Dem. Rep. Congo and northeastern Angola (see comment); presumably to be found in southwestern Central African Republic.

Discussed and revalidated by Perret, 1958, Rev. Suisse Zool., 65: 259, with synonymy of Hylambates cubitoalbus Boulenger, 1906, as well as Leptopelis tessmanni Nieden, 1909; the latter name having been much used before 1958. Pauwels, Rödel, and Toham, 2003, Hamadryad, 27: 271–273, reported the species in Gabon. Lasso, Rial, Castroviejo, and De la Riva, 2002, Graellsia, 58: 21–34, provided notes on ecological distribution in Equatorial Guinea.
