Arthroleptis wageri FitzSimons, 1930, Ann. Transvaal Mus., 14: 42. Holotype: TMP 13688, by original designation. Type locality: "Port St Johns, Pondoland Coast", Eastern Cape Province, Rep. South Africa.

Removed from the synonymy of Arthroleptis wahlbergi by Tolley, Conradie, Harvey, Measey, and Blackburn, 2018, Afr. Zool., 53: 83–97, where it had been placed by Loveridge, 1954, Ann. Natal Mus., 13: 97, and Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 160. See comments under Arthroleptis wahlbergi for relevant older literature. Kushata, Conradie, Cherry, and Daniels, 2020, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 130: 783–799, reported on mtDNA phylogeographic structure.
