See brief account by Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 42, who noted that the taxon is so poorly known that it may not be distinct from one of the other species in the area once types have been examined. Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99–172, summarized the literature. Ceríaco, Blackburn, Marques, and Calado, 2014, Alytes, 31: 27–28, discussed and pictured the holotype and suggested that it represents a distinct species. Marques, Ceríaco, Blackburn, and Bauer, 2018, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 65 (Suppl. II): 117–118, provided a map and brief account for Angola.
