Comment

See Cei, 1980, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Monogr., 2: 292–293, for subspecies accounts. See Úbeda, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 218, for discussion of range. Blotto, Nuñez, Basso, Úbeda, Wheeler, and Faivovich, 2013, Cladistics, 29: 113–131, redelimited the species and removed Alsodes neuquensis from synonymy as a distinct species and (appendix S3, p. 5) noted that the record of nominal Alsodes australis from Futaleufú, Chile, is assignable to this species. See Lobos, Vidal-Maldonado, Correa-Quezada, Labra-Lillo, Díaz-Páez, Charrier, Rabanal, Díaz-Vidal, and Tala, 2013, Anf. Chile Conserv. 1–104, for photograph, comments on conservation status, and range in Chile. Mella-Romero, Mella, Muñoz, and Correa-Quezada, 2022, Gayana, 81: 22–29, discussed the southernmost record in Chile and provided a dot map for the species.
