Syntypes: not stated; MNCN 276 (2 specimens), according to Savage, 1968, Copeia, 1968: 758, who designated as lectotype the smaller specimen (now MNCN 1586, according to González-Fernández, García-Díez, and San Segundo, 2009, Spixiana, München, 32: 272. Type locality: "in Ecuador; ad nemores pagi S. Jose de Moti", Cantón de Quijos, Napo Province, Ecuador. Discussed by Savage, 1968, Copeia, 1968: 753, who suggested that this locality is "San José Mote Viejo . . . almost due east of Volcán Sumaco, at 0° 32′ S and 77° 25′ W in Provincia de Napo; it lies on a ridge projected east from Volcan Sumaco just north of the valley of the Río Suno, at about 1200 m elevation".
