Hyloxalus Bocagei Jiménez de la Espada, 1870, J. Sci. Math. Phys. Nat., Lisboa, 3: 59. Syntypes: Not stated; MNCN 1583-84 are syntypes and MNCN 1583 designated lectotype by Coloma, 1995, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 87: 21. Type locality: "in Ecuador; ad sylvas pagi S. Jose de Moti", Cantón de Quijos, Napo Province, Ecuador. Páez-Vacas, Coloma, and Santos, 2010, Zootaxa, 2711: 26, noted that the original type locality cannot be located and other aspects render this locality ambiguous.
