Biol., 48(A): 43, presumably a lectotype designation by implication. Type locality: "Puerto Cabello[, Estado Carabobo,] in Venezuela".

Colostethus herminae — Edwards, 1971, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 84: 148. Edwards, 1974, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 30: 1-14; La Marca, 1992, Cuad. Geograf., Mérida, 9: 26.

Mannophryne herminae — La Marca, 1994, Publ. Asoc. Amigos Doñana, 4: 21.

English Names

Hermina's Poison Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 50).

Distribution

Comment

Removed from synonymy of Colostethus trinitatus without discussion by Edwards, 1974, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 30: 1-14, where it had been placed by Boulenger, 1894, Zool. Rec., 30: 35, Barbour and Noble, 1920, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 63: 401, and Rivero, 1961, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 126: 158. This arrangement has been followed by all subsequent authors except Rivero, 1984 "1982", Mem. Soc. Cienc. Nat. La Salle, 42: 14, who regarded it as a race of Colostethus trinitatus. See La Marca, 1992, Cuad. Geograf., Mérida, 9: 26, who recognized and diagnosed it. Manzanilla, Jowers, La Marca, and García-París, 2007, Herpetol. J., 17: 31-42, suggested that the populations from the north-central versant of the central Sierra de la Costa needed to be assessed with molecular data to determine if they were conspecific with nominal Mannophryne herminae. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 614.
