Distribution

Northern Venezuela (states of Aragua, Carabobo, Miranda, Sucre, and Yaracuy) in a few premontane localities in the Cordillera de la Costa and the Serranía del Interior, 250-1600 m elevation.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Craugastor) biporcatus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 228. See account by Lynch, 1975, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 38: 1-46 (as Eleutherodactylus maussi). Savage and Myers, 2002, Am. Mus. Novit., 3357: 14 (account on page 21-24), noted that the name Strabomantis biporcatus had previously been assigned incorrectly to the species now named Eleutherodactylus gulosus, and assigned to the species formerly referred to as Eleutherodactylus maussi. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 227, included this species in his Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri series, Eleutherodactylus biporcatus group. In the Strabomantis biporcatus species series, Strabomantis biporcatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 131. Barrio-Amorós and Kaiser, 2008, Salamandra, 44: 248-254, detailed the geographic range of the species in Venezuela.
