Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento de Caldas, Municipio de Pensilvania, Km 24 carretera Pensilvania a Arboleda, por una troche que conduce a Florencia, Caldas, sitio «Puerto Suarez», 2000-2150 m.s.n.m.".

Known only from the vicinity of the type locality on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Central in the Municipality of Pensilvania, Department of Caldas, Colombia, 1800-2450 m elevation.
Unassigned to species group in the original publication. Lynch, 2004, in Rueda-Almonacid et al. (eds.), Libro Rojo Anf. Colombia: 269-272, provided an account and map and placed this species in the subgenus Eleutherodactylus. In the subgenus Pristimantis, but unnassigned to species group by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 118.
