Distribution

A few localities at elevations of 1200-1780 m in cloud forest on the Pacific slopes of the Andes in northern Ecuador (Carchi and Esmeraldas provinces) and adjacent Colombia (Nariño Department).

Comment

According to the original publication part of a small group, including Eleutherodactylus chalceus, Eleutherodactylus gularis, and Eleutherodactylus vocator, that might be part of the Eleutherodactylus diastema group (part of the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group). See account by Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 131-132, who placed it in the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus diastema group. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 227, placed this species in his Eleutherodactylus martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus diastema group. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) chalceus group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 119.
