In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 231. Synonymized with Eleutherodactylus curtipes by Lynch, 1969, Herpetologica, 25: 266, but resurrected by Lynch, 1979, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 66: 37, who provided an account, considered it most closely related to Eleutherodactylus balionotus, and noted previous misidentifications in the literature. Almendáriz and Orcés, 2004, Politécnica, Quito, 25: 128, provided distributional data for Ecuador. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128.
