Colostethus guanayensis La Marca, 1997 "1996", Publ. Asoc. Amigos Doñana, 9: 18. Holotype: MHNLS 10708, by original designation. Type locality: "Alto río Parguaza, Serranía de Guanay (5° 55′ N y 66° 23′ W), Estado Amazonas", Venezuela. Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 17, corrected the state of the type locality from Amazonas to Bolívar, Venezuela.
