The frogs from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta referred to this species by Lynch, 1978, Copeia, 1978: 18, are of a distinct species according to J. D. Lynch in Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 314. Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 52, 54, commented on the Venezuelan distribution (as both Eleutherodactylus prolixodiscus and Eleutherodactylus chlorosoma). Lynch, 2003, Rev.
