In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to the original publication. De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 46, noted that populations previously referred to as Eleutherodactylus mendax in Bolivia are of this species. Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 121-122, provided a brief account. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) lacrimosus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 123.
