Type locality: "COLOMBIA, Departamento de Valle del Cauca, Municipio El Cairo, vereda Las Amarillas, El Boquerón (límite con Depto. Choco), 19.6 km del cementario de El Cairo), 2130 m."

In the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group by implication of the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128.
