Eleutherodactylus muricatus Lynch and Miyata, 1980, Breviora, 457: 2. Holotype: MCZ 94469, by original designation. Type locality: "Río Faisanes where it is crossed by Ecuador Highway 28 (the road from La Palma to Quito via Chiriboga), 14.4 km from the junction with Highway 30 (the Aloag to Santo Domingo de los Colorados road) at La Palma, Provincia Pichincha, Ecuador, 1380 m."

Distribution
Spotty distribution between 800-1380 m elevation in the region of the type locality, Pichincha Province, Ecuador.
Comment
In the Eleutherodactylus rubricundus assembly of the Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group. See account by Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 115-116, who place it in the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) unistrigatus group of the Eleutherodactylus martinicensis series. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128.
