Pristimantis minutulus Duellman and Hedges, 2007, Phyllomedusa, 6: 127. Holotype: KU 291678, by original designation. Type locality: "0.0-1.5 km NW Cacazú, 900-1200 m, 10° 38′ S, 75° 07′ W, Departamento Pasco, Peru".

Known from the type locality, 0.9 km north and 2.1 km east of Oxapampa, Departmento Pasco, central Peru, 1970 m elevation, as well as 115 km to the northeast of this locality at Panguana, Departamento Huánuco, Peru .
In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus group, most similar to Pristimantis stictogaster, according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Rödder and Schlüter, 2009, Salamandra, 45: 53-56, provided the second locality for this species and reported on color-pattern polymorphism.
