Type locality: "'La Empalada'; Quebrada La Empalada, Km 13 carretera Mistrató a San Antonio del Chamí, Municipio de Mistrató, Departamento de Risaralda, Colombia, 1760-1790 m".

Known only from the type locality in the Department of Risaralda, Colombia, 1760-1790 m elevation.
Comment
The sister species of Eleutherodactylus bellona according to the original publication. In the subgenus Pristimantis (Pristimantis) bellona species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 118.
