Mucubatrachus flabellidiscus La Marca, 2007 "2006", Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 3: 76. Holotype: ULABG2883, by original designation. Type locality: "Los Aranguren, 2860 m (aprox. 8° 35′ 59″ N, 70° 55′ 28″ W), vertiente sur del Parque Nacional Sierra Nevada, Municipio Rangel, Estado Mérida, Venezuela".

Known only from subpáramo habitat at the type locality (Los Aranguren, Parque Nacional Sierra Nevada, Municipio Rangel, Mérida, Venezuela).

In the subgenus Pristimantis, but unnassigned to species group by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 118.
