Upper montane forests and clearings on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Napo Province, Ecuador, 2350-3155 m elevation.

Lynch, 1969, J. Herpetol., 3: 135-138, discussed the identity of this species and placed it in a restricted Eleutherodactylus surdus group. See also brief account by Lynch and Duellman, 1980, Misc.
