Eleutherodactylus nebulosus Henle, 1992, Bonn. Zool. Beitr., 43: 86. Holotype: ZFMK 27634, by original designation. Type locality: "Departamento Huanuco, Cordillera Azul, Pass der Carretera Central auf 1650 m NN". Junior homonym of Syrrhophus nebulosus Taylor, 1943 (= Eleutherodactylus pipilans), according to Lynch, 1996, J. Herpetol., 30: 279.

In the Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri group according to the original publication. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) conspicillatus series, Eleutherodactylus conspicillatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 221. In the subgenus Pristimantis, but unnassigned to species group by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 118.
