Comment

In the Phrynopus flavomaculatus group according to the original publication. See Duellman and Wild, 1993, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 157: 34, for additional specimens. Duellman, 2000, Herpetologica, 56: 276, provided an account as Phrynopus nebulanastes. Lehr, 2005, Herpetologica, 61: 204, noted that this taxon is actually a member of the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) nigrovittatus group. Heinicke, Duellman, and Hedges, 2007, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 104: 10092-10097, removed this species from nominal Eleutherodactylus but did not provide a new generic name. See Duellman and Lehr, 2009, Terrest.-breeding Frogs in Peru: 88-89, for brief account.
