Hoogmoed and Gruber, 1983, Spixiana, München, Suppl., 9: 360, considered Hyla abbreviata Spix, 1824, a synonym, and noted that this name has priority, because of the first revisor action of Wagler, 1830, Nat. Syst. Amph.: 202. Hoogmoed and Gruber proposed to put the case before the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature to conserve the current name.
