Eleutherodactylus vulcani Shannon and Werler, 1955, Trans. Kansas Acad. Sci., 58: 379. Holotype: UIMNH 74468 (formerly F.A. Shannon 4728), by original designation. Type locality: "by a water hole on the slopes of Volcán San Martín, Veracruz, at an elevation of 3500 feet", Mexico.

Distribution

Known only from rain forest and cloud forest in the isolated Sierra de los Tuxtlas of southern Veracruz, Mexico, 400-1200 m elevation.

Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Eleutherodactylus berkenbuschii by Campbell and Savage, 2000, Herpetol. Monogr., 14: 208, where it had been placed by Lynch, 1965, Herpetologica, 21: 110 (actually under Eleutherodactylus rugulosus, sensu lato) and by Savage and DeWeese, 1979, Bull. S. California Acad. Sci., 78: 114. In the Eleutherodactylus rugulosus group. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 227, included this species in his Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri series, Eleutherodactylus rugulosus group.
