Eleutherodactylus rupinius Campbell and Savage, 2000, Herpetol. Monogr., 14: 213. Holotype: UTA A-26199, by original designation. Type locality: "Finca El Faro, S slope Volcán Santa María, 4.0 km N El Palmar, 875 m, Quezaltenango, Guatemala. This site lies in Premontane Wet Forest at about 14° 40′ 30″ N, 91° 35′ W."

Distribution
Pacific drainages of southeastern Chiapas, Mexico, where it occurs on the Pacific versant in the vicinity of Escuintla, southeastward through southern Guatemala to eastern El Salvador, 400-1760 m elevation; presumably in adjacent and intervening Honduras.
Comment
In the Eleutherodactylus rugulosus group according to the original publication. Köhler, Vesely, and Greenbaum, 2005 "2006", Amph. Rept. El Salvador: 54-56, provided an account (as Eleutherodactylus rupinius and for El Salvador) and a color photograph. In the Craugastor punctariolus species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 42.
