Liyla rugulosa Cope, 1870 "1869", Proc. Am. Philos. Soc., 11: 160. Syntypes: USNM 29971-72 according to Kellogg, 1932, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 160: 117; USNM 29771 designated lectotype by Savage, 1974, Herpetologica, 30: 295, and Savage, 1975, Copeia, 1975: 273. Type locality: "Pacific region of the isthmus of Tehuantepec", Mexico.

Hylodes palmatus Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 201. Syntypes: By indication (as a composite replacement name) the primary types of Leihyla güntheri Keferstein (= Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri) and Liyla rugulosa Cope (= Eleutherodactylus rugulosus). Among the types of these species USNM 29771 was designated lectotype of Hylodes palmatus by Savage, 1974, Herpetologica, 30: 295. Type locality: "Pacific region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec", Mexico. Synonymy by Savage, 1974, Herpetologica, 30: 295.

Eleutherodactylus palmatus — Stejneger, 1904, Annu. Rep. U.S. Natl. Mus. for 1902: 582-583. by implication; Taylor, 1952, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 35: 744 (Based on specimens of Eleutherodactylus andi, according to Savage, 1974, Herpetologica, 30: 295).

Eleutherodactylus avocalis Taylor and Smith, 1945, Proc. U.S. Natl. Mus., 95: 580. Holotype: USNM 116885. Type locality: "Tres Cruces, near Tehuantepec, Oaxaca", Mexico. Synonymy by Lynch, 1965, Herpetologica, 21: 110, and Savage, 1975, Copeia, 1975: 273.

Distribution

Slopes of the Pacific drainage of southern Mexico from central Guerrero, where it occurs in the Río Balsas and Río Papagayo drainages, eastward through Morelos, southern Puebla and southern Oaxaca into extreme southwestern Chiapas, 200-over 2000 m elevation.

Costa Rica: 226, included this species in his Eleutherodactylus fitzingeri series, Eleutherodactylus rugulosus group. Valenzuela Galván, Chávez-Juárez, and Alcaraz-Cruz, 2004, Herpetol. Rev., 35: 184, provided the Morelos record. In the Craugastor punctariolus species series of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 42.
