Discoglossus scovazzi Camerano, 1878, Atti Accad. Sci. Torino, Cl. Sci. Fis. Mat. Nat., 13: 548. Syntypes: 17 specimens, including MZUT An278 (Tetuan) and 280 (Tangier), by original designation. Type localities: "Tetuan", "Tangeri" (= Tangier), and "Mogador", Morocco.

Removed from the synonymy of Discoglossus pictus by Martínez-Solano, 2004, J. Zool. Syst. Evol. Res., 42: 298-305, and Fromhage, Vences, and Veith, 2004, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 31: 321, where it had been placed by Lataste, 1879, Act. Soc. Linn. Bordeaux, Ser. 4, 3: 275-342; Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 445.
