In the Eleutherodactylus nigrovittatus group, most closely related to Eleutherodactylus mantipus, according to the original publication. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) conspicillatus series, Eleutherodactylus nigrovittatus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 227. Heinicke, Duellman, and Hedges, 2007, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 104: 10092-10097, removed this species from nominal Eleutherodactylus but did not provide a new generic name; see comment under Hypodactylus. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Eleutherodactylus latens) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph.
