Known only from the region of the type locality in the Province of Chachapoyas, Department of Amazonas, Peru.
In the Eleutherodactylus nigrovittatus group according to the original publication. Heinicke, Duellman, and Hedges, 2007, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 104: 10092-10097, removed this species from nominal Eleutherodactylus but did not provide a new generic name; see comment under Isodactylus.
