Comment

First recognized as a genus by Noble, 1931, Biol. Amph.: 523 (but, who implicitly did not include the Indian species in the taxon, which are now Indirana). Norris in Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 80, suggested that recognition of Discodeles renders Platymantis paraphyletic. This result was corroborated by Wiens, Sukumaran, Pyron, and Brown, 2009, Evolution, 63: 1217-1231. Pikacha, Morrison, and Richards, 2008, Frogs Solomon Islands: 37-42, provided a key and accounts for the species of the Solomon Islands. See comment under Platymantis.
