Placed in Ceratobatrachidae by Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 136, on the basis of DNA sequence evidence. Brown and Parker, 1970, Breviora, 346: 1-31, reviewed this genus and named new species. Norris in Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 75, suggested that the genus is monophyletic. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 76, provided a key to the species in the genus. Pikacha, Morrison, and Richards, 2008, Frogs Solomon Islands: 27-34, provided a key and accounts for the species of the Solomon Islands. See comment under Platymantis.
