Type locality: "Quebrada Chacaito, Parque Nacional El Avila, (10° 30′ 36″ N—66° 51′ 44″ W), 980 m s.n.m., Distrito Federal, Venezuela". Incorrect original spelling.

In the Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni group according to the original publication. Señaris and Ayarzagüena, 2005, Rev. Taxonom. Fam. Centrolenidae de Venezuela: 188-193, provided a review of the morphology, natural history, and range of this species.
