Distribution

Known from the type locality (Quebrada Jaspe, San Ignacio de Yuruaní) and Salto Karuay, Bolívar. Venezuela, as well as Kaieteur National Park, Guyana.

Comment

Very similar to Cochranella oyampiensis (as Centrolenella) according to the original publication. Placed in the Cochranella spinosa group by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 365. Transferred to Hyalinobatrachium by Barrio-Amorós, 1999 "1998", Acta Biol. Venezuelica, 18: 14-15, but this was rejected by Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007, Zootaxa, 1572: 1-82. Señaris and Ayarzagüena, 2005, Rev. Taxonom. Fam. Centrolenidae de Venezuela: 113-121, provided a review of the morphology, natural history, and range of this species (as Cochranella helenae). See account by Kok and Castroviejo-Fisher, 2008, Zootaxa, 1680: 39-43, who provided new records from Guyana and Venezuela (and noted that the record from Salto Karuay had previously been assigned to Cochranella oyampiensis) and noted this species to be a member of the Cochranella helenae group. Kok and Kalamandeen, 2008, Intr. Taxon. Amph. Kaieteur Natl. Park, 5: 140-141, provided an account.
