Known only from the type locality in the Reserve Buenaventura, in the foothills of the Cordillera de Chilla, which is part of the Cordillera Occidental, Province of El Oro, southwestern Ecuador, 1200 m elevation.
In the Cochranella griffithsi clade according to the original publication, along with Nymphargus cariticommata, Nymphargus griffithsi, and Nymphargus wileyi.
