Known only from region of the type locality on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Central in the Departamento de Huila, Colombia, 1980-2190 m elevation.
In the Centrolene prosoblepon group according to the original publication. Guayasamin, Castroviejo-Fisher, Trueb, Ayarzagüena, Rada, and Vilà, 2009, Zootaxa, 2100: 56, regarded this species as incertae sedis within Centroleninae. Catenazzi, Von May, Lehr, Gagliardi-Urrutia, and Guayasamin, 2012, Zootaxa, 3388: 64, confirmed the placement of this species in Centrolene.
