Type(s): Formerly in MNCN, now lost, according to Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 184; not lost according to González-Fernández, García-Díez, and San Segundo, 2009, Spixiana, München, 32: 269, who noted the registration number as MNCN 1596. Type locality: "las riberas del rio Napo en el Ecuador" (possibly in error; see comment).

Distribution

Pacific Andean cloud forest slopes of Ecuador; in Colombia in the western slope of the Cordillera Central (4° 30′—6° 20′ N), eastern slope of the Cordillera Oriental (1° 30′—5° 30′ N), and the Cordillera Occidental (4° 40′—6° 40′ N), 1750-2000 m elevation.

In spite of the Amazonian type locality, the species is known only from the Pacific slopes of the Andes. In the Centrolene geckoideum group according to Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1-30. Rueda-Almonacid, 1994, Trianea, 5: 133-187, provided an extensive account. Lynch and Renjifo, 2001, Guia Anf. Rept. Bogota: 40, presented a brief account and photograph. Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007, Zootaxa, 1572: 52, discussed the species, noted the relevant literature, and disputed the assumption that the type locality is in error.
