Bufo typhonius roqueanus Melin, 1941, Göteborgs K. Vetensk. Vitterh. Samh. Handl., Ser. B, 1: 17. Syntypes: NHMG (4 specimens), by original designation. NHMG Ba.ex. 460 (2 specimens) listed in museum records; the status of the other two specimens is not known. Type locality: "Roque, Perú".

Eastern Ecuador, northern Peru, Amazonian Colombia and adjacent Brazil.

Comment

See discussion by Hoogmoed, 1986, in Rocek (ed.), Studies in Herpetol.: 147-150, and Hoogmoed, 1990, in Peters and Hutterer (eds.), Vert. Tropics: 117-120, who first recognized this taxon as a species. The diagnostic differences between this form and geographically proximate members of Rhinella are not well documented. See comment under Rhinella margaritifera.
