Alsodes gargola Gallardo, 1970, Neotropica, 16: 78. Holotype: MACN 18704, by original designation. Type locality: "Argentina, Provincia de Río Negro, Cerro Catedral, Lago Tonchek, 1700 m s. n. m."

Distribution

Volcanic tablelands of northwestern Argentinian Patagoniain the province of Chubut, in scattered localities.

See Cei, 1980, Monit. Zool. Ital., N.S., Monogr., 2: 292-293, for subspecies accounts. See Úbeda, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 218, for discussion of range. Blotto, Nuñez, Basso, Úbeda, Wheeler, and Faivovich, 2013, Cladistics, 29: XXX, redelimited the species and removed Alsodes neuquensis from synonymy as a distinct species.
