Poyntonophrynus hoeschi (Ahl, 1934)
Bufo hoeschi Ahl, 1934, Zool. Anz., 107: 335. Syntypes: ZMB (4 specimens), by original designation; Mertens, 1955, Abh. Senckenb. Naturforsch. Ges., 490: 26, listed ZMB 35128 as 'Typus' constituting a lectotype designation by implication. Type locality: "Okahandja", Namibia.
Bufo jordani Parker, 1936, Novit. Zool., 40: 145. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.20.94 (formerly 1936.8.1.227), according to 50. Type locality: "Satansplatz, circa 1,300 m.", Namibia. Poynton and Broadley, 1988, Ann. Natal Mus., 29: 466-471, discussed the features of this nominal species and near relatives and removed all obstacles to the synonymy of this nominal species with Bufo hoeschi although they did not formally do so. Comment
In the Bufo vertebralis group according to Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 65. Considered a synonym of Bufo dombensis (in their Bufo vertebralis complex) by Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 159, although they considered Bufo jordani to be in the Bufo taitanus complex. See also Mertens, 1971, Abh. Senckenb. Naturforsch. Ges., 529: 13, for taxonomic comments.
