Comment

In the Bufo vertebralis group according to Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 65. Considered a synonym of Bufo dombensis (in their Bufo vertebralis complex) by Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 159, although they considered Bufo jordani to be in the Bufo taitanus complex. See also Mertens, 1971, Abh. Senckenb. Naturforsch. Ges., 529: 13, for taxonomic comments. Poynton and Broadley, 1988, Ann. Natal Mus., 29: 466-471, and Channing and Vences, 1999, S. Afr. J. Zool., 34: 74-79, discussed the features of this nominal species and near relatives. Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 777, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 166-167, provided accounts.
