Bufo peltacephalus fustiger Schwartz, 1960, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 73: 47. Holotype: AMNH 59847, by original designation. Type locality: "San Vicente, Pinar del Río Province, Cuba".

Distribution

Broad distribution in the lowlands and mountains of western Cuba from the Guanahacabibes Peninsula to the borders of the Llanura de Zapata, below 390 m elevation.

Comment

Schwartz and Thomas, 1975, Spec. Publ. Carnegie Mus. Nat. Hist., 1: 13, noted the possibility that the two subspecies of (former) Bufo peltocephalus may be distinct species, Bufo peltocephalus and Bufo fustiger. Subsequently recognized as distinct by Estrada and Ruibal, 1999, in Crother (ed.), Caribb. Amph. Rept.: 42, as distinct. Díaz and Cadíz, 2008, Guía Taxon. Anf. Cuba, 4: 1-294, provided an account, as Bufo fustiger.
