Comment

Pramuk, 2002, Herpetol. Monogr., 16: 121-151, reported on the phylogenetic relationships of this species, suggesting it to most closely related to Bufo peltocephalus and Bufo taladai than to other species. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Bufo empusus) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 182. Díaz and Cadíz, 2008, Guía Taxon. Anf. Cuba, 4: 1-294, provided an account, as Bufo empusus.
