Pelophryne api Dring, 1983, Amphibia-Reptilia, 4: 107. Holotype: BMNH 1978.1575, by original designation. Type locality: "camp five 150 m, base of Gunung Api, Gunung Mulu N[ational]. P[ark]., Fourth Division, Sarawak", Malaysia (Borneo).

Known only from the type locality in Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak, Malaysia (Borneo), 65-1200 m elevation.
