Comment

According to the original publication, Parapelophryne lacks the synapomorphies of Pelophryne. Smith and Chiszar, 2006, Herpetol. Conserv. Biol., 1: 6-8, implied that this taxon should be considered a subgenus of Bufo; see comment under Bufonidae. This taxon has not been included in any of the recent large-scale molecular studies of bufonid relationships so its phylogenetic position remains an open question.
