Comment

See account (as Atelopus bufoniformis) by Peters, 1973, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 145: 20. Mueses-Cisneros, 2003, Caldasia, 25: 422, provided a brief account for Colombia. Mueses-Cisneros, 2005, Caldasia, 27: 231-232, provided localities in southern Colombia. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 612. See comments by Cisneros-Heredia and Gluesenkamp, 2011 "2010", Avanc. Cienc. Ingen., Quito, Secc. B, 2 (3): 64-73, who noted that records for the western slope of the western Andes in northwestern Ecuador apply to Osornophryne occidentalis. Páez-Moscoso and Guayasamin, 2012, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 65: 805-822, suggested on the basis of molecular evidence that this taxon is a species complex.
