Nimbaphrynoides Dubois, 1987 "1986", Alytes, 5: 27. Type species: Nectophrynoides occidentalis Angel, 1943, by original designation.

English Names

Nimba Toads (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 45).

Distribution

Mount Nimba region of Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Guinea.

Comment

See comment under Nectophrynoides. Graybeal and Cannatella, 1995, Herpetologica, 51: 121-122, presented evidence supporting the monophyly of this taxon. Smith and Chiszar, 2006, Herpetol. Conserv. Biol., 1: 6-8, implied that this taxon should be considered a subgenus of Bufo; see comment under Bufonidae. This taxon has not been addressed in any of the recent large-scale analyses although it presumably is related to Nectophrynoides.
